Shawn Porter has vowed to knock out Errol Spence Jr. in their welterweight title unification fight Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
If his bold prediction rings true, "Showtime" has the perfect opponent in mind for what would probably be the largest payday of his career — boxing legend Manny Pacquiao.
"The fights that matter to me are the ones that will make me the best welterweight on the planet, and that starts with Errol Spence in my next fight," Porter told Sky Sports. "After that, I'd like to take on Manny Pacquiao."
Porter's fighting legacy would be enhanced significantly with a win over Spence, especially if he delivers the KO and hands "The Truth" the first loss of his pro career. But the stakes would be even grander against Pacquiao, considering the IBF, WBC and WBA world welterweight titles would all be on the line.
Doing analyst work for "PBC on FOX" for the Pacquiao-Keith Thurman pay-per-view in July, Porter told Pacquiao that he is "ready to make a wild moment" with Pacquiao following "Pac Man's" split-decision win to take the WBA strap.
Of course, Spence (25-0, 21 KOs), who has called out Pacquiao before, will be aiming for that same fight if he's able to defeat Porter (30-2-1, 17 KOs) and push his record to 26-0 on Saturday night.
