Gennadiy Golovkin could be an excellent back-up fight for Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez if he cannot make a fight with Caleb Plant.
Plant holds the IBF belt at 168lbs and is the only man standing in the way of the Mexican’s campaign to become undisputed at super middleweight. The pair are finding it hard to agree terms for a fight, something Matchroom head Eddie Hearn has started to complain about.
That has led to a suggestion that Alvarez may move up to light heavyweight to fight someone such as Artur Beterbiev, but there are now reports which claim that Golovkin could be in line for a high-profile fight.
Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, Barak Bess believes a fight with ‘GGG’ would be a more than worthy occasion.
“That's a fight I'd want to see,” he said.
“I don't care if it's a trilogy and we have seen them two times already. Triple G is a very experienced fighter, both fights were close.
“Whether you thought whoever won, both fights were close. I love that fight. So Triple G in the gym today. He's working hard. He's ready. He's training with Chris Camacho. He's ready.
“That's the only guy that gave Canelo anytime recently, a tough fight. So I say let's make that.”
Meanwhile Akin Reyes claimed: “Who cares if the fight is available and the offer to Caleb Plant doesn't play out?
“I want to see it. I think that's the biggest fight in any of those divisions. Even bigger than the Beterbiev fight.”
