Tony Bellew has questioned the need for a rematch between Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr.
Eubank and Smith fought at the start of the year with many suggesting that Eubank, as the traditionally heavier man, would have the upper hand.
However, Smith was dominant from the off and stopped his opponent, with the beaten man entitled to a rematch.
Eubank took his time to ruminate on the result and it appears that he will enforce his chance for a second fight.
Speaking to the DAZN Boxing Show, former world champion fighter Bellew suggested that there were few compelling sporting reasons to see the pair run it back, given he had anticipated the outcome of the fight.
"I see some other rematches which are put in place, most recently Liam Smith and Chris Eubank Jr.,” he began.
“I don’t see the need, because who is Chris Eubank Jr. before he faced Liam Smith, and who is he after he faced Liam Smith? What did he actually bring to the table? He brought a bit of a profile boost, but Liam Smith was the better fighter, Liam Smith was the more decorated fighter.
“Why does Liam Smith have to face Chris Eubank Jr. again? Other than the fact of proving what he did was no fluke, which a lot of people like myself, predicted he was going to win anyway.
“There are a few pointless ones and I think rematches should be pursued from a champion’s perspective only.”
