Joshua Franco has given an update on his brother Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez’s recovery from a broken jaw.
Rodriguez suffered the injury in the sixth round of his fight against Cristian Gonzalez to win the vacant WBO flyweight title, in a performance that was understandably subdued given the injury.
Franco, at 27 four years his brother’s senior, explained that Rodriguez had not even been able to eat for six weeks, and was instead on a liquid diet.
The WBA super flyweight champion told the DAZN Boxing Show: “Now he’s able to eat, he had six weeks of not being able to eat, so now he’s able to eat and train a little bit.
“He can’t spar yet, I think he has to wait a few months yet. I think he’s getting back to normal, getting back to the group.
“He’s just staying busy on the pads, on the mitts. He just got off last week from his liquid diet.”
Franco’s next fight is on June 24, in Japan, in a rematch against Kazuto Ioka after the pair drew their first fight in 2022.
