24 hours before Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez faces Juan Fransisco Estrada in an eagerly-anticipated rematch for the WBC, WBA and The Ring super-flyweight titles, Thailand's own Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and Kwanthai Sithmorseng do battle for the right to challenge the winner.
Multi-time former 115lbs champ Sor Rungvisai has defeated both Gonzalez and Estrada, having fought each man twice in the past. He is 2-0 against Chocolatito having claimed the WBC and Ring belts from the Nicuraguan in successive bouts before immediately retaining them in his first meeting with Mexico's Estrada to cap a fantastic three-fight run in 2017-18.
Sor Rungvisai lost the belts to Estrada in their second encounter, but then won two on the bounce in his native Thailand to move closer to what would be a trilogy fight against either of the two men set to clash in a return bout of their own in Dallas on the same weekend.
Standing in the way is Sithmorseng, who is a former two-weight champion at straw-weight and light-fly, but heads into the contest with patchier form than his favoured opponent.
“Kwanthai is very experienced, and he is a former world champion,” Sor Rungvisai told The Ring Magazine. “I cannot underestimate him, and I’m sure he will be more than 100-percent [ready].
“This fight is very important to me, and I must win with an impressive performance to show the world that I’m more than ready to fight them. I will fight the winner of Estrada and Chocolatito later this year. I have waited for almost two years for this world title opportunity. It’s time and I believe I can do it.
“My goal right now is to be a three-time world champion. I will put everything into reaching my goal.”
