Stipe Miocic more interested in boxing Tyson Fury than fighting Daniel Cormier in trilogy

The UFC heavyweight champion thinks a boxing match with the lineal heavyweight titleholder would be more intriguing.

Dana White has already gone on record saying that the UFC will do a Stipe Miocic-Daniel Cormier trilogy fight once the former fully heals up from their August bout.

The sound of that doesn't thrill Miocic, though. The UFC heavyweight champion feels like his fourth-round TKO of Cormier was decisive enough to move on from their rivalry. In addition, he finds another potential opponent much more appealing — none other than Tyson Fury.

Miocic saw footage of Fury training in the mixed martial arts with Darren Till, and he would be more interested boxing against the lineal heavyweight champion.

"I'll step into the ring. I'd love to box him. I would love to box him," Miocic said with emphasis to Ariel Helwani on the "Helwani Show" on Monday. "He's a great fighter, he's a good dude, I think we'd put on a good show."

When pressed on why stepping into Fury's realm intrigues him more than an MMA fight with the "Gypsy King," Miocic offered that mixed martial arts has too many disciplines for Fury to learn in what would be a crash course and that a meeting in the ring could be arranged more quickly.

"Go toe-to-toe, slug it out," he said.

"I would love to fight Tyson Fury," Miocic added again moments later. "I'd love to box him."

Miocic also relayed that he "didn't fluke knock [Cormier] out" and that's the reason a trilogy against "DC" just doesn't hold as much appeal as challenging Fury in boxing.

Miocic's comments come after Francis Ngannou said last week that he'd be willing to box against Fury as well and that Mike Tyson would train him to do so. To that, Fury responded in true Fury fashion.
