HSunny Edwards believes his bout wtih Galal Yafai is "all the way up there" with the biggest fights of his career, as the pair prepare for a major clash, live on DAZN this weekend.
The former IBF flyweight world champion and the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games gold medal victor will meet in a clash for the interim WBC world title at bp pulse LIVE in Birmingham.
The two have a long history together, with Edwards defeating Yafai as an amateur before they both came through the Team GB pathways and sparred together over the years.
Speaking on DAZN's FACE OFF before their encounter, the former professed his delight at facing his old ring partner in front of a home crowd and suggested it can meet the hype.
"I feel this fight is all the way up there," he said. "It’s got the response that it deserves. There’s not many people in our country, at our weights, that have done what we have.
"For the last seven or eight years of my professional career, it’s been disappointing that there hasn’t really been another British name. I’ve not had the domestic nights, really.
"It’s much easier to get more excited about a Brit versus a Brit. A former world champion and former Olympic gold medallist. I have to be fit, I have to be sharp, I have to be ready."
Edwards arrives with a 21-1 record as a professional, with his only career loss coming last year against Jesse Rodriguez in a unification bout in Glendale, Arizona.
Yafai meanwhile holds only a 8-0 professional record, most recently securing a third-round TKO victory over Sergio Oliva in Sheffield in late September.
