The boxing legend gave his thoughts on the weight division.

Legendary boxing trainer and analyst Teddy Atlas has made a strong claim as to who is the best fighter at super middleweight.

Many fans and experts would quickly point to Saul "Canelo" Alvarez as the best operator at 168lbs with the Mexican holding all four world title belts.

However, following wins over John Ryder and Jermell Charlo in 2023 which were met with a mixed response, Atlas believes Alvarez is no longer the best fighter at super middleweight and instead labelled David Benavidez as the division's number one operator.

"Obviously, Canelo could easily be the number one pick, but he has got two losses and two draws," Atlas told ProBox TV

"The fighter that has the power, the fighter that has the drawing power, pay-per-view power, the guy that lays the golden eggs, when they have got all of that, usually when he has got two draws that means two losses. You could easily say that Canelo is 60-4.

“I just think that if a guy hasn’t lost yet, like Benavidez, there is no telling of how good he still can be, it was the same thing with Canelo up until that point [loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr.].

"You can lose and you can still get better, yeah I get it, that ain’t happening with Canelo at this point in his life though.”

One fighter which will be looking to put himself in a position to face Alvarez is his fellow countryman Jaime Munguia who puts his 42-0 unbeaten record on the line against John Ryder on Saturday night live on DAZN
