Teofimo Lopez Jr. new IBF lightweight champion after second-round TKO of Richard CommeyDAZN
Just like that, the 22-year-old Brooklyn native is a world champ.

NEW YORK — How else can you say it? Teofimo Lopez Jr. is one of the most electric fighters in all of boxing — if not the most electric.

The 22-year-old fighter with a penchant for fireworks and social media-friendly celebrations struck again Saturday night, producing a riveting second-round TKO of Richard Commey to become the new IBF world lightweight champion at Madison Square Garden.

Lopez landed a spectacular right hand flush to Commey's face, bending the Ghanaian at the knee and sending him stumbling all over the ring. The referee registered the count, which Commey managed to beat, but the challenger smelled blood on the badly hurt champion and smothered him with repeated left and right hooks until he got the TKO.

Watching it all unfold in person was none other than Vasiliy Lomachenko, the unified world lightweight champion. With Lomachenko and Lopez both Top Rank fighters, a mega-unification bout should be made in 2020.
