Teofimo Lopez has changed his mind on retirement and has confirmed with the WBO that he will keep their super-lightweight title.
Lopez announced his intentions to walk away from boxing last month following his one-sided win over Josh Taylor where he sent out a stark reminder that he’s still one of the world’s best fighters.
In the immediate aftermath, talk of fighting the likes of Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia was squashed straightaway as the New York man stated that the Taylor win would be his last fight.
Many doubted the sincerity of Lopez’s claim due to him still having many big nights ahead of him and it now appears he’ll fight on.
A tweet posted by WBO president, Paco Valcarcel, stated that Lopez has informed the governing body boss that he will be retaining their belt.
This decision opens plenty of doors for Lopez and his next move will be well worth watching as he pursues further big fights.
