Teofimo Lopez could have a big 2024.

Subriel Matias is quickly earning a reputation as one of boxing’s most devastating punchers, but the Puerto Rican star hasn’t impressed Teofimo Lopez yet.

All of Matias’ 20 victories have come early and the only defeat on his record, a loss to Petros Ananyan, was avenged before Matias became IBF junior welterweight champion against Jeremias Ponce.

Lopez, who’s next move is still unconfirmed, has taken the chance to speak about Matias as he plots his next move.

Earlier this year, Lopez reminded boxing fans of his qualities when he outclassed Josh Taylor to win the WBO super-lightweight title.

Now the New Yorker is targeting fights against the likes of Terence Crawford and Ryan Garcia, but he’s also had his say on Matias.

“You can’t say that he [Matias] is a nobody, he is the IBF World Champion in my division,” said Lopez when speaking on The Porter Way podcast

“To be honest [I haven’t been paying attention to him], I’ve been paying attention to what more can I do outside of just my sport, but then also bringing it back in, so I’m not really focussed on anyone, my biggest test is myself.

“As long as I am happy and my mind is straight and I’m focussed like always, he would probably go out in four [rounds].”
