WBO welterweight champion Terrence 'Bud' Crawford has hit back at claims made by Jermell Charlo that he does not warrant his reputation as one of the pound-for-pound greats in boxing right now.
Charlo, the unified light middleweight champion, had previously suggested that Crawford has never fought anybody particularly troubling, despite possessing a 37-0 record which includes convincing wins over Amir Khan and Kell Brook.
But with the opportunity to place his name amongst his greatest peers by becoming the undisputed champ at 154, Charlo failed to deliver in Saturday's split decision draw with WBO champion Brian Castano.
Reaching out to Twitter, Crawford was quick to criticise his long-standing rival.
"Last night is the reason you not on the p4p list sir," said Crawford. "Gotta do better."
Many felt that Charlo has been defeated by the Argentinian, despite the split decision result. Charlo never seemed on top at any moment in the bout, while his opponent was able to mount pressure.
And Crawford was in agreement with most that Castano had won. "Charlo lost. I’m done talking about it," he said.
