British boxing is about to experience “a big period of success.” That’s the opinion of Tony Bellew, the former WBC cruiserweight champion who was recently revealed as the latest member of DAZN’s fight night team.
Bellew’s knowledge of boxing, combined with his passion for the sport that served him so well, has saw him provide expert ringside analysis at some of the fight game’s biggest events. Now providing those insights on DAZN, the ex-fighter can’t wait to get started.
“This is a huge opportunity for British boxing,” buzzed a beaming Bellew. “Eddie Hearn and Matchroom have a vision and with DAZN joining them, I think this a great news for fighters. Fans want to see good fights and I think that’s what we are going to get now with DAZN fully committed to back Matchroom’s ideas.”
Kicking off Matchroom’s new and exciting partnership with DAZN is the second instalment of Fight Camp from Essex at the end of July, going into the following month. With Conor Benn and Adrian Granados kicking off the festivities on July 31st, Bellew believes the three-weekend extravaganza will contain plenty of drama.
“I was at the last one when it all kicked off between Dillian [Whyte] and [Alexander] Povetkin and that was an unforgettable moment. I’m going to say that this version will be just as entertaining if not better. Matchroom will go all out to create a big setting and that will bring the best out of the fighters.
“I’m seriously invested in week two when Jazza Dickens, one of the fighters I manage, takes on Kid Galahad for the world title, but away from that there’s still plenty that I’m looking forward to. This new deal with Matchroom and DAZN has got the fighters excited and they’ll be doing all they can to make sure they play the part on it.
Bellew added, “Conor Benn has another step up in class against Granados, who’s a very tough fighter. We’ll get to see Joshua Buatsi take on Ricards Bolotniks and that fight could tell us a lot about how far Joshua can go. It feels like a fresh start for British boxing with DAZN now onboard and I can’t wait to get started.”
