In pushing to make the biggest fights possible in boxing, Turki Alalshikh is also trying to set records along the way.
His Excellency took to his X social media account Tuesday and revealed Riyadh Season has applied for a capacity extension at Wembley Stadium for the upcoming fight between Anthony Joshua and IBF heavyweight world champion Daniel Dubois on September 21. The ambition behind the request? To break the largest British attendance record for boxing at Wembley.
Alalshikh wrote:
The April 2022 heavyweight bout between Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte currently holds the British record for largest attendance at Wembley with 94,000 fans seeing Fury produce a sixth-round TKO of Whyte.
Of course, Joshua himself isn't a stranger to fighting in front of massive crowds.
Just north of 90,000 fans packed into Wembley to witness AJ's coronation as the king of boxing as Joshua generated an electrifying 11th-round TKO of Wladimir Klitschko to become the unified heavyweight world champion in their April 2017 fight.
A win over Dubois would make Joshua a three-time heavyweight world champion, marking a full-circle moment at Wembley for the boxing superstar.
