Although many expect Tyson Fury to face Oleksandr Usyk in 2023, the current WBC champion has hinted at the possibility of drawing David Price out of retirement.
The 2008 Olympian was a lengthy rival of Fury during their early days in the professional ranks after the Liverpool man defeated Fury in an amateur contest in 2006.
Despite both men following similar career path for a sustained period, a meeting between the pair didn’t materialise.
Following Price’s consecutive losses to Tony Thompson in 2013, his path to a world title became severely obstructed whilst Fury continued to push on, finally becoming world champion in 2015.
Despite Price walking away from the sport in 2021, Fury still has fond memories of their rivalry, and has pondered whether a potential fight is still possible.
“I wonder if it would still sell out a stadium if me and big old David Price had a fight,” said Fury when speaking on the IFLTV Raw podcast.
“Even though he’s retired, Old Trafford or Anfield I think we sell it out for the WBC World Heavyweight title. Or even if the WBC wouldn’t sanction it, we could do it for the North West title of Great Britain.”
“The rivalry was that big for so long, and he was the only British person to ever beat me, amateur or pro. I think it’d sell out.”
