Eddie Hearn believes that Tyson Fury should be made to fight Dillian Whyte if he insists on taking another fight after his Deontay Wilder fight, if it delays the Anthony Joshua clash.
Speaking on the DAZN Boxing Show, Hearn addressed Fury’s recent claims that Joshua may well not be his next opponent after the third Wilder clash and Joshua's expected September title fight against Oleksandr Usyk
“Fury, what he actually said was even if it was a voluntary, but even if it's a mandatory, even better, because he can fight Dillian Whyte, we happy with that.” he said.
“Usyk will fight Joshua, it looks like September 25. So it's a tight turnaround for AJ to fight in December. Right? If Tyson Fury wants another fight in between, let's do the right thing.
“WBC, give the fight to the mandatory challenger. Which is Dillian Whyte.
With Fury set to fight Wilder at the end of July, Hearn expects a successful defence for the current WBC champion but cannot rule out the Bronze Bomber springing a surprise.
“The guy doesn't just grow ability overnight. That's the difference,” he said.
“How does he look to you? Exactly the same, on Instagram hitting pads, Exactly the same, the footwork exactly the same? You're not gonna teach him new tricks? Yes, he will always be dangerous, right? He will always have the ability to take any heavyweight out with one punch. Right? And therefore you cannot rule him out. And it's fine.
“And I'm not saying he has no chance. He's exactly the same fighter. He's also mentally completely and utterly defeated. Right?
“I mean, you only have to look at the psychoanalysis of what's been in the last three or four months to provide comments and everything. He's not going to just learn things that Malik Scott taught him to beat Tyson Fury.”
