The WBC mandatory defence is set for 2022.

Tyson Fury facing Dillian Whyte would be a ‘terrific fight’ according to Top Rank president Todd DuBoef.

Top Rank co-promote WBC champion Fury, and he is set to negotiate a mandatory defence with Dillian Whyte after the governing body ordered the bout.

Fury is said to be keen to get back into the ring as soon as possible after beating Deontay Wilder in his trilogy rematch in October, and it appears he will have to wait for the resolution of Anthony Joshua’s rematch with IBF, WBA and WBO champion Oleksandr Usky.

Speaking of the fight against Whyte to Sky Sports, DuBoef said: "It makes a lot of sense.

"We are working hand-in-hand with Tyson for his homecoming.”

DuBoef explained the Fury’s main concern is to stay active.

"Tyson said to us: 'I want to fight by March'," said he said.

"He really doesn't care who he fights. We are targeting keeping him in the ring.

"We could do a fight in the UK in the first quarter of next year, and Whyte is a terrific fight.

"We want to get the date done, and get him in the ring, as quickly as possible."
