There’re not many people within the boxing community who thought Tyson Fury defeated Francis Ngannou on Saturday night, but the WBC heavyweight champion does have one backer.
Lennox Lewis, the man who once held Fury’s title, has revealed that he scored the bout for Fury despite many preferring Ngannou’s approach.
Fury was dropped in the bout’s third round and the knockdown didn’t make him more alert as he struggled with Ngannou’s approach in the final stages.
Fury was the recipient of two scorecards that went in his favour and although the result caused some anger, Lewis does believe that the right man won.
“I thought Fury won the fight, but then again, I’m also of the contingency that you have to TAKE the title from the champ,” wrote Lewis on X.
“Aside from the knockdown, Ngannou just looked to counter all night. Call me old school but, that’s just not enough in my book unless u stop him.”
