If the current champion retires then he hopes his former rival gets another chance.

Tyson Fury believes that Deontay Wilder deserves another shot at the WBC world heavyweight championship despite his recent run of defeats.

The Bronze Bomber has failed to win in each of his last three fights, all of them against current belt holder Fury. Fury won the last two meetings, and the first was a draw that many believe should have been ruled in the Briton’s favour.

On Saturday night at Wembley Stadium, Fury defeated his WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte, teeing up what could be an undisputed clash with the winner of Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua. Once that designation is settled it could lead to a break-up of the belts as Fury has often said he would retire from the sport. Joshua or Usyk may also choose to give up one or more of the belts if they were to win the clash.

Given that Fury has already claimed he may not fight again, the WBC belt could be up for grabs sooner than the other three, and he thinks Wilder should get a chance to win it back.

"I'd like to see Deontay Wilder fight whoever for it again. I don't know how that's even possible [that Wilder is ranked at number 1 by the WBC]. He's lost three fights in a row and still number one-rated. But that's up to them," Fury said to Behind The Gloves .

"One thing, [though], Deontay made ten title defences, more than anybody else. He equaled Muhammad Ali's record [of defenses], beat Vitali Klitschko's record [of defenses], [he] doesn't get the credit he deserves. And I do believe he's still the second-best heavyweight in the world, Deontay Wilder. I believe he knocks everybody else out but me."
