John Fury believes his son has what it takes to compete in the cage.

Tyson Fury will make the switch from boxing to MMA at some point. That’s the verdict of John Fury, Tyson’s father, who believes his son has the necessary skills to become a success in the cage.

Fury, who has also tested himself in a professional wrestling environment thanks to a brief spell with WWE, has already spent time preparing for the change after training with UFC star, Darren Till, back in 2019.

With his immediate focus set on Deontay Wilder, who Fury faces for a third time on October 9th, his attention will likely move to a series of fights with either Anthony Joshua or Oleksandr Usyk in 2022.

Fury, boxing’s premier heavyweight since 2015 will have accomplished all there is to achieve if victorious in those bouts and that would be the ideal time to call a halt on his boxing career. His father believes he’s ready made for a new challenge in the octagon.

"With the right training, he'd do very well, said John when speaking to JOE. “I've seen him excel in different sports like wrestling, so I've got kind of an idea what Tyson was from that. I know he can use more than his hands.

"He's quick, light on his feet and I do believe, if a top MMA trainer took him on, he could do big things with him - ask Darren Till.

"The rougher it gets with Tyson, the better he likes it. When he does finally retire from boxing, he'll probably go to that [MMA] and come back to boxing, but he will engage on that you'll see."
