UFC president Dana White has hinted that he may be getting involved in the world of boxing after all, and that an announcement is coming “in the next couple of weeks”.
White has mentioned in previous years that he would like to add boxing promotion to his mixed martial arts resume, but was never able to get anything over the finish line.
However, in a recent interview with The BT Sport Boxing Show, White insisted that he still has something to offer the world of professional boxing and that something is in the works.
“The world of boxing hasn’t been able to do what I’ve been able to do [in MMA] over the last 20 years,” White said.
“If they can’t do things when the world is normal, you can’t expect them to do things when the world is crazy.”
“I peeked under the hood a lot there for the last year. Looked at different things and I said, ‘I don’t know man, I don’t know if this is fixable.’
“Funny enough, since the pandemic I’ve been looking at other options too.
“When it’s time, I’ll let you know, I’m not ready yet. But [it’ll be] in the next couple of weeks.”
The UFC have staged multiple events in Las Vegas and on their "Fight Island" development, situated on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island, which also hosts the Yas Marina Formula 1 race course.
At the UFC's most recent event, Colby Covington defeated Tyron Woodley in the main event.
