The end of the feud or just the next argument; British bulldozers; a huge 2025; why Usyk v Fury 2 is not to be missedDAZN

Here we are - fight week, Oleksandr Usyk vs. Tyson Fury 2 in Riyadh, live on DAZN PPV. The fight that will either finally settle this gripping rivalry or extend it to a third fight in 2025.

Usyk is the undefeated heavyweight king, and briefly the first undisputed world heavyweight champion since 1999. Fury remains one of the generational greats, despite that first career loss to the 'The Cat' in May

The first bout was an epic. Fury dominated early, before Usyk responded. He knocked down the Morecambe fighter in round nine, which was the moment that ultimately won the battle on split decision for the Ukrainian.

Seven months later the duo do it again, headlining a seven-bout fight card, which boasts three heavyweight duels. It is not one to be missed, and here is why...

Usyk v Fury competition

Usyk to become one of the greatest ever?

Usyk became the first undisputed heavyweight champion in the four-belt era in May, and the first since Lennox Lewis in 1999.

He boasts an unbeaten record and has already defeated Anthony Joshua, Daniel Dubois, and Fury.

Another high-profile victory will prove he is the finest heavyweight of his generation and put him in the debate to being one of the all-time greats.

Beware the wounded Fury

Fury has made a habit of being at his best when all is against him, his career and track record proves time and again.

Whether that is getting up from a brutal Deontay Wilder knockdown to salvage a draw in the first of the pair's trilogy; or fighting back from addiction and mental health issues that saw him stripped of his boxing licence and world titles.

Fury has inspired the British public by continually beating the odds to comeback from setbacks.

Can he rediscover that old magic to do it again, level the series at 1-1, and set up a third fight?

Warren’s golden touch

It has been an astonishing year for legendary promoter Frank Warren, even by his own long and high standards.

His young charge, IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois, destroyed rival Anthony Joshua in September; Fabio Wardley crushed Frazer Clarke; and Zhilei Zhang knocked Deontay Wilder into another universe during Queenbury's 5v5 clean sweep over Matchroom.

To boot, Warren's Queensbury promotions agreed a new broadcast partnership with DAZN. This means all of Queensbury's fight nights and fighters like Zhang and Dubois can be watched on DAZN from April 2025.

His top man Fury becoming world heavyweight champion again would be an incredible end to an incredible 2024.

The next big things

Johnny Fisher, 25, and Moses Itauma,19, are literally boxing’s next big things.

These British bulldozers are both undefeated, but face much more experienced opponents in Riyadh.

These are future champions in the making, but know only victory will keep them on that course.

Both can bang, both are explosive – these are the two to watch, both on this Reignited fight card and in the future.

The Eddie Hearn factor

It would not be big fight night without Eddie Hearn. The Matchroom promoter will be part of the top notch DAZN broadcast team.

Hearn will be joined on fight night by hosts Kate Scott and Ade Oladiop, and expert pundits Andy Lee, Adam Smith, Barry Jones, Darren Barker and Emily Austin.

For the fight outcome itself, Hearn will be hoping for a Fury victory. While such a feat would likely setup a third fight with Usyk first, following that it could give his man Joshua another world title shot in 2025.

But the Matchroom promoter knows this is a fight that could go either way. “Both are very smart fighters. My money is just on Usyk, but my heart wants to see Fury win. I want to set up the AJ fight.”

What it means for 2025

We know mega matchups are now consistently being made thanks to His Excellency Turki Alalshikh and Riyadh Season. One is already announced, with the Last Crescendo card on February 22, 2025, already billed as the greatest card ever put together

That will witness seven amazing title fights in Saudi Arabia. It will witness Dubois defending his IBF belt against Joseph Parker, while Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol will go at it again.

However 2025's fight nights will become even bigger, especially for British boxing, if Fury takes the win.

Firstly, a trilogy fight with Usyk, followed by a potential unification battle with Dubois or finally, finally, going against AJ.

A Usyk win could speed up another heavyweight unification battle with Dubois, if the latter also sees off Parker in February. While the British public will cry out for Fury and Joshua to happen even quicker if Fury loses on Saturday.

Usyk could also retire following a second victory over 'The Gypsy King', which would open a fascinating race for the vacant belts from the rest of the division.
