One of boxing's rising stars returns to the ring when Vergil Ortiz Jr. battles Antonio Orozco in a 10-round welterweight main event on Saturday, Aug. 10, from The Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas, live on DAZN.
Ortiz (13-0, 13 KOs) kept his undefeated and knockout run alive when he demolished Maurcio Herrera by third-round knockout in the co-main event of the Canelo Alvarez-Daniel Jacobs card in May. Earlier in the year, Ortiz beat Jesus Valdez Barrayan when the latter didn't come out for the sixth round.
Orozco (28-1, 17 KOs) bounced back after suffering his first career loss at the hands of unified junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez in September to defeat Jose Luis Rodriguez by unanimous decision in March.
Facing someone the caliber of Orozco should provide the tough test Ortiz needs. If Ortiz can do to Orozco what he's done to his previous 13 opponents, then the 21-year-old should be ready to compete for a world title.
