All the training is done. The media sessions are done. The last thing Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Antonio Orozco needed to do before Saturday's welterweight main event from The Theatre in Grand Prairie, Texas, live on DAZN, was to weigh-in and make the fight official.
Ortiz and Orozco both made 147-pound limit. Orozco tipped the scales first and came in at 146.75 pounds. Ortiz went next and weighed exactly 147. They had a brief staredown, shook hands and went their separate ways.
Ortiz (13-0, 13 KOs) looks to keep his his undefeated and knockout streaks intact. His last time out, the 21-year-old demolished Mauricio Herrera by third-round knockout in the co-main event of the Canelo Alvarez-Daniel Jacobs card in May.
Orozco (28-1, 17 KOs) bounced back after suffering his first career loss at the hands of unified junior welterweight champion Jose Ramirez in September to defeat Jose Luis Rodriguez by unanimous decision in March.
