Vergil Ortiz Jr. (15-0, 15 KOs) will kick off Golden Boy Promotions' return to boxing this summer by putting his undefeated record on the line against Samuel Vargas (31-5-2, 14 KOs) on Friday, July 24, at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in Indio, Calif. The fight will be live and exclusively on DAZN.
It will be Golden Boy Promotions' return for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic rocked the sports world back in March.
The Ortiz-Vargas fight was originally scheduled for March 28 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., but was shuttered a week prior due to the spread of coronavirus.
Ortiz will step inside of a boxing ring for the first time since stopping Brad Solomon in the fifth round in December. That win punctuated a phenomenal 2019 campaign for the 22-year-old, who went 4-0 with 4 knockouts.
Vargas hasn't fought since his unanimous decision victory over Silverio Ortiz 13 months ago. Prior to that, he lost a narrow split decision to Luis Collazo in March 2019.
Can the experienced Vargas push the young talent to the limit, or will he end up being Ortiz's 16th consecutive victim?
Also featured on the card will be Shane Mosley Jr. (15-3, 9 KOs) squaring off with Jeremy Ramos (11-8, 2 KOs), and the undefeated Seniesa Estrada (18-0, 7 KOs) will try to take another step toward a world title shot.
