With crossover boxing on the rise, could one of English football’s greatest ever talent be about to put gloves on?
Wayne Rooney, a legend for Manchester United and England, has messaged Eddie Hearn about the possibility of taking part in a boxing match and it’s an idea that excites the Matchroom boss.
This past weekend, KSI and Tommy Fury headlined an incredible show at a sold-out Manchester Arena, and it appears that the appeal is stretching to footballers.
Rooney was a member of an amateur boxing club in his Liverpool home before concentrating on football and Hearn has revealed that the goalscoring sensation has been in contact about a possible contest.
“After every big fight, especially with a YouTuber, sometimes Wayne Rooney will fire me a message,” said Hearn when appearing on Stick to Football.
“I’ve said to Wayne, who had a very limited amateur pedigree but could still fight, imagine the shape you’d get in, I told him. Wayne Rooney against Jake Paul at Old Trafford, imagine that.”
