The two British heavyweights are expected to fight in April.

The World Boxing Council will present a new ‘Union Belt’ to the winner of Tyson Fury vs. Dillian Whyte.

While no deal has been finalised for the WBC mandatory to face the current champion, Fury and Whyte are still expected to fight on April 23rd at Wembley Stadium.

With Anthony Joshua due to face Oleksandr Usyk for the WBA, WBO and IBF belts the following month, that could set up an undisputed clash for later in 2022.

Joshua vs. Fury had been anticipated as an all-British fight but with that on the backburner - should it happen at all - Whyte and Fury offer the WBC the chance to commemorate two Britons fighting for a heavyweight championship..

"This unique belt will be presented as a special trophy to the winner of the highly anticipated fight between WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and WBC interim-heavyweight champion Dillian Whyte. The Union belt extols special elements, to celebrate and commemorate the United Kingdom through boxing," a WBC spokesman said.

Whyte last fought in March 2021 to win back the interim championship from Alexander Povetkin, while Fury beat Deontay Wilder in his trilogy rematch finale in October last year.
