UPDATE: Wilder vs. Ortiz live updates, highlights from full card
It was one of the toughest tests of his career, but Deontay Wilder battled through adversity to deliver a 10th-round TKO of Luis Ortiz back in March 2018.
Now, Wilder is giving Ortiz another shot, as he puts his WBC world title on the line in a rematch between the heavyweights. It all goes down Saturday night, Nov. 23, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
After defeating Ortiz last year, Wilder (41-0-1, 40 KOs) went on to battle Tyson Fury to a thrilling split draw in December and blast Dominic Breazeale via first-round KO in May. Entering the rematch, Wilder vows that Ortiz will feel his power again.
"This might be his last [world title shot] at 40 years old," Wilder said on a conference call about Ortiz. "Coming in, we all know when you fight Deontay Wilder I take something from you. I take years from your life. And that is me going to him again to get some more. You already got some these sweet potatoes and now he's coming back for seconds. And I'm ready to fill his mouth full with it."
Meanwhile, Ortiz (31-1, 26 KOs) has tallied three straight victories, including a unanimous deciison over Christian Hammer in March, following his loss to Wilder. "King Kong" has nothing but exacting revenge and becoming world champion on his mind.
"I have absolutely nothing personal towards Deontay," Ortiz said. "I respect him as a man, father, human being and that's got nothing to do with nothing. It's all about being a world champion, coronating myself that night on the 23rd, achieving my goal since I was 10 years old."
The winner will also put himself in great position to possibly face the victor of the Dec. 7 Andy Ruiz Jr.-Anthony Joshua unified title rematch with the undisputed heavyweight crown on the line.
