Bio
Born and raised in Bristol and named after renowned American author and poet Maya Angelou, Jama relocated to London aged 16 to pursue a career in broadcasting.
Beginning her on-screen career with roles on JumpOff.tv and TRACE Sports, Jama went on to host Maya’s World Cup Cities on Copa90 before appearing on a host of shows on BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and more.
After hosting Drive With Maya in 2014 on Rinse FM, Jama’s radio career then saw her move to host her own BBC Radio 1 show in 2018, which ran until 2020.
She has presented at the Brits, Bafta’s, Stand up to Cancer and was the youngest ever host of the MOBO’s. Maya is a regular on Celebrity Juice and Don’t Hate the Playaz. She hosts BBC’s Glow Up and is on the panel for the hit BBC1 show Save Our Summer and Year-Late Euros with former England striker Peter Crouch.
