Men
Brendan Irvine (Flyweight)
Belfast flyweight Irvine heads to his second Olympics after competing in Rio five years ago. As the only member of the team with senior games experience, the 25-year-old has also been named as captain.
Irvine, a European Games medalist in 2015, also won bronze and silver medals at flyweight at the 2017 European Championships and 2018 Commonwealth Games, respectively, the latter whilst representing Northern Ireland.
After his confirmation as captain, Irvine said: "We are excited to just get stuck in now. We have a strong team, with every single person going into the Olympic Games with a real opportunity to do something special.
"The Olympics are like no other tournament, and I’m lucky to be going to my second. We all know that these Games will be different and that it will be a new experience for each of us, but especially on the back of what has been a tough and testing year, we are ready."
Kurt Walker (Featherweight)
A two-time gold medalist representing Ireland at bantamweight in the 2018 EU Championships and 2019 European Games, Kurt Walker arrives in Tokyo with real claims of securing yet another gold medal.
Like his captain, the 26-year-old also won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games while representing Northern Ireland, but has since moved up in weight classes.
Aidan Walsh (Welterweight)
Yet another to have won silver on the Gold Coast in 2018, Aidan Walsh competes at Tokyo with his eyes on a gold medal. The 24-year-old from Belfast will be joined in Japan by sister Michaela.
Emmet Brennan (Light Heavyweight)
Dublin light-heavyweight Brennan came through a bruising encounter at the European qualifier in Paris, winning by unanimous decision despite four of the five judges calling his fight with Sweden's Liridon Nuha a draw.
At 30-years-old it was now or never for Brennan, and he heads to Tokyo chasing a life-long dream.
"I’m going to give it everything I have, I quit boxing and only came back four or five years ago. The goal was to get to the Olympics. Now it’s to push on and try to get a medal, I’m going to give it everything I have," he said.
Women
Michaela Walsh (Featherweight)
The older sister to Aidan, 28-year-old Walsh is a two-time Commonwealth Games silver medalist. In Glasgow seven years ago she was beaten by Nicola Adams by split decision in the flyweight final, before picking up the featherweight silver on the Gold Coast in 2018.
Kellie Harrington (Lightweight)
The eldest member of the team, 31-year-old Harrington has strong claims of emulating Kate Taylor by winning gold at an Olympic Games. Harrington took the top spot on the podium at the 2018 World Championships in New Delhi, before winning silver at the European Games a year later.
The Dubliner then proved her Olympic credentials by winning the European Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament last year, defeating Caroline Dubois by split decision in the final.
Aoife O’Rourke (Middleweight)
Completing the seven-person team is Aoife O'Rourke, the youngest member of the squad. But despite only just turning 24, O'Rourke already has one gold medal in the cabinet after winning the 2019 European Championships.
