Anthony Joshua immediately set his sights on Tyson Fury after destroying Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia, and live on DAZN pay-per-view, on Friday.
Well, Fury, who was in attendance in Riyadh, took the time to break some news to AJ — that a mega fight between them is going to take some time and Joshua is going to have to wait.
"Unfortunately, I've got bigger fisht to fry in [Oleksandr] Usyk on the 18th of May and then we have a rematch in October," Fury told DAZN about his pair of undisputed heavyweight championship clashes with Usyk.
"So after that, if he's still available and I'm still available, let's get it on."
Fury also made it a point to let Joshua know that trying to defeat him will be very different than how he handled Ngannou.
"If [Joshua] fights me in the future after I'm done with Usyk twice next year," Fury said, "then it would be a different game."
So if a Fury-Usyk rematch essentially wipes the remainder of their 2024 clear, how will AJ use the interim time? To that, Fury gave the following suggestion:
"He could do what he wants because it's none of my business," Fury started saying. "Whoever he fights, he's got to fight him. He can't wait a year because inactivity is no good as we know. After I beat Usyk, there'll be an IBF vacant so maybe him and [Filip] Hrgovic can fight for the vacant IBF."
