Cornerback Jalen Ramsey has not had the start to life with the Miami Dolphins he had hoped for following his big move to Florida from the Los Angeles Rams in March.
Ramsey, 28, is one of the best in the business. The 2015 first round pick has been a fundamental part of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams defenses during his career.
However, Dolphins fans who were hoping to see him during the preseason will be left disappointed after Ramsey was carted off the field at training camp with a meniscus injury.
This is not Ramsey's first meniscus injury, he also suffered one as a rookie but returned to action within six weeks, an outcome which would be welcomed this time around.
The Dolphins are looking at a minimum of six weeks before Ramsey is ready to take part, however if scans reveal a more serious injury then the cornerback would be looking at months rather than weeks on the sideline.
Ramsey posted on social media that he is ready for an "end of the season push" which would suggest the injury is more serious than first hoped, though there has been no official word from the team yet.
Who are the back-up cornerbacks in Miami?
Ramsey had been hoping to form a partnership with cornerback Xavien Howard to start the season.
If he does miss the season opener against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Dolphins will turn to their sophomore and rookie cornerbacks to fill in the gap.
Kader Kohou played in 13 games in his rookie season where he made one interception and forced a fumble alongside making 63 solo tackles.
The Dolphins' other option would be their 2023 second-round pick Cam Smith.
The South Carolina product and Kohou will look to use the remainder of training camp and preseason friendlies to win playing time in Ramsey's absence.
