Alexa Grasso-Claudia Gadelha fight scratched after Grasso misses weight by over five pounds

Alexa Grasso-Claudia Gadelha fight scratched after Grasso misses weight by over five poundsDAZN
Fight fans will have to wait and see how Alexa Grasso responds to this setback.

The disappointed look on her face said it all. Alexa Grasso did it to herself.

Grasso tipped the scales 5.5 pounds overweight Friday, and the Nevada State Athletic Commission decided to scratch her scheduled UFC 246 bout against Claudia Gadelha as a result.

It happened shortly after Gadelha held up her half of the bargain by tipping the scale at 115.5 pounds earlier in the day. However, when Grasso stepped onto the scale, she weighed in at 121.5 pounds, well over the 116-pound limit. ESPN reported that the bout had to be canceled because there's only a three-pound allowance between strawweight fighters.

This is not how Grasso, 26, wanted to start her 2020 mixed martial arts campaign, especially considering that she was trying to bounce back from a majority decision loss to Carla Esparza in September. Prior to that, Grasso (11-3) had delivered a unanimous decision win over Karolina Kowalkiewicz in June, making this slated bout against Gadelha seemingly all the more important.

Fight fans will have to wait and see how Grasso responds to this setback.
