No fighter in the history of the UFC had won by submission due to a standing arm triangle.
That changed on Saturday at UFC Fight Night as Jessica Andrade tapped out Amanda Lemos with the hold at the 3:13 mark of the first round from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nev., in a successful return to the women's strawweight division.
The middle of the round turned into a battle of leg kicks with Lemos having the advantage due to a thunderous calf kick which spun Andrade around caused deep bruising to the muscle.
Andrade and Lemos were starting to swing for the fences when the former rushed in and locked in a standing arm triangle. The former women’s strawweight champion had the choke in deep and continued to squeeze as hard as she could. Lemos tried every way to escape but Andrade wasn’t releasing it which left Lemos no choice but to tap out.
Andrade's (22-9) now won back-to-back fights. The victory ties Andrade with women's featherweight champion Amanda Nunes for most wins by a woman in UFC history with 14.
