Tom Aspinall was recently crowned the UFC's interim heavyweight champion.

Former two-weight UFC champion Daniel Cormier doubts whether fans will get to see interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall take on one of the greats Stipe Miocic.

Miocic was to set to main event UFC 295 this past Saturday against UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, however, with the latter picking up an injury in training camp, the fight was then cancelled.

This then saw Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich meet in the co-main event in New York, and it was Aspinall who emerged victorious with a first round knockout.

Now with a UFC belt around his waist, Aspinall will be looking to continue beating the best fighters in the heavyweight division while he waits for an opportunity to face Jones once he recovers from injury.

One potential future opponent for Aspinall would be Miocic in what would be the American's first fight since March 2021.

Cormier however believes this is unlikely happen due to Miocic not wanting to risk the possibility of missing out on one last big pay day if the fight with Jones can be rearranged.

“The reality is that won’t happen. That’s not something that you think these guys would agree to," Cormier said on DC & RC

"I don’t believe that Stipe says, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna go fight this guy [Tom Aspinall] who is the interim champ, he’s dangerous, he’s tough, and give away a fight in Jon Jones, where you know you get more money'.

"When you fight Jon Jones, you get more money. Why would Stipe, at, 41 risk that to fight Tom Aspinall? I don’t think it happens."
