The Bellator 263 main event is official, but A.J. McKee certainly made it interesting.
McKee registered 145.2 pounds — 0.2 pounds over the contracted featherweight limit — during Friday's weigh-in at the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel. He had up to 90 minutes to shed the 0.2 pounds but only took 15 minutes to return to the scale and hit 145 pounds on the dot for his second attempt. McKee let out a roar in approval.
Since Patricio "Pitbull" Freire came in at 144.5 pounds earlier in the weigh-in, the Bellator 263 main event is official, as "Pitbull" will defend the featherweight world championship against McKee live from The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. on Saturday night. The winner of the Featherweight World Grand Prix Final will also leave The Forum with a cool $1 million in tow.
A ceremonial weigh-in will follow the official session Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
