The former middleweight champion now starts the comeback trail.

The comeback for Chris Weidman begins now.

Weidman's wife took to social media on Sunday to let everyone know that her husband underwent successful surgery to repair the broken leg he suffered at Saturday's UFC 261 against Uriah Hall.

"Well, that was horrible," Marivi Weidman said in the post. "Freak things happen in life, and plans get crushed. It's been a lonnnggg day but so happy to finally see this man of mine post-surgery. Everything went well, thank you, Lord!

"My heart breaks for my husband because I know the work and dedication that he puts into his training everyday and the great man that he is, so I only want the best for him. While this absolutely sucks in the moment and for some weeks to come, we are completely overwhelmed by the love and support we have far and wide and are very aware how blessed we are. All of that overpowers the awfulness of this situation."

In the opening exchange, Weidman threw a leg kick, and Hall proceeded to check the strike. At the point of impact, a bone in Weidman's leg immediately broke through the skin. As soon as Weidman planted his leg, the former middleweight champion crumbled to the mat in agony. Medical personnel immediately rushed into the Octagon and carried Weidman out on a stretcher and was taken to a hospital in Jacksonville, the site of UFC 261.

At this time, there is no update on the severity of Weidman's injury, but he is resting comfortably after the procedure.
