Oktagon co-found Ondrej Novotny claims that Conor McGregor believes the format's UK vs. Ireland idea is ‘a brilliant idea’.

In September this year, fighters from each country will form a stable and form the card for a night of action.

“National pride will also be at stake when four fighters from each side battle it out under the guidance of expert team captains to see which individual, and region, will reign supreme,” according to Oktagon.

The MMA franchise is shown live on DAZN, and Novotny explained their unique approach to the sport.

He said: “We see ourselves slightly differently than other organisations that's why we're doing things like Stage to the Cage with Jake Quickenden and Paul Smith, no one has done this before us.

“And the Oktagon Challenge between the UK and Ireland, nobody has done this before. Paddy Houlihan, who is the coach for the Ireland team says he spoke to Conor McGregor on the phone and he said it's a ‘brilliant idea’ and he couldn't understand why no one has done it before. We have just had the semi finals and it was an unbelievable fight.

“What we like to do is bring in new fans and families, and show how brave, strange and interesting the fighters are. Oktagon is something they can watch together and go together as they do in the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany.“
