After plenty of speculation, Dana White has set the record straight on the UFC 300 main event.
White announced the UFC 300 main event during UFC 298 inside the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Saturday night.
"It will feature Alex Pereira defending his light heavyweight title against Jamahal Hill," White said in a video posted to his X account. "Alex Pereira is the first fighter to become a champion in both the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions of the UFC.
"It took him the shortest period of time in the history of the organization to win his middleweight title and it took him the fewest number of bouts to win a championship in a second weight class," White continued. "He is an all-action striker with incredible power and seven of his nine MMA wins have come by knockout. He is violent, he is scary and he will be taking on Jamahal Hill who is the former light heavyweight champion who never lost the title but vacated his belt after tearing his achilles last year."
After losing the middleweight title in a rematch with Israel Adesanya last April, Pereira delivered a split-decision win in his light heavyweight debut over Jan Błachowicz in July.
Less than four months later, the Brazilian pulverized Jiří Procházka with a second-round TKO (elbows) to claim the then-vacant light heavyweight championship.
Hill last defeated Glover Teixeira in January 2023 to become the light heavyweight world champ in a bout that had him set a record of landing 232 strikes — the most strikes landed in a UFC light heavyweight bout.
Both Pereira and Hill possess explosive power, seemingly making their UFC 300 main event April 13 a must-see fight.
Other confirmed bouts for the mega card include Weili Zhang putting the strawweight title on the line against Yan Xiaonan, while Justin Gaethje will clash with Max Holloway.
