Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler Gable Steveson has already vowed to be at WWE SummerSlam on Saturday night.
And with the big event taking place at Allegiant Stadium, home of the NFL's Las Vegas Raiders, Dana White hopes to sit down and talk with the 21-year-old star about possibly joining the UFC. The timing of such a meeting makes sense considering, the UFC is having its UFC Fight Night event the same night at its UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
"He'll be in town this weekend, so I think we're going to hook up and talk," White revealed to TMZ Sports about meeting with Steveson. "Obviously, there's a lot of work for him to do before he can make it to the UFC but we'll see what happens."
White even entertained a statement that former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo told to TMZ, as Cejudo believes that Steveson could defeat the likes of Jon Jones and current UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou with two years of training.
"That's a pretty ballsy statement, I'll call it," White said with a grin. "Jon Jones, obviously a legend, one of the greatest of all times, undefeated — never been beat — but ... Jon Jones is getting older, too."
There's no doubt that wrestling is a staple of mixed martial arts and that White is an advocate for Olympic wrestling.
"Wrestling is a massive base in the UFC," White said. "A lot of great wrestlers, including the Olympics, have come and done big things here. So, I'm looking at all the guys."
In the past few weeks alone, Steveson has expressed interest in the WWE, UFC and NFL. WWE Superstar Seth Rollins even offered to train him.
