PFL Europe 2024: Connor Hughes eager to face British rival in lightweight tournament final

PFL Europe 2024: Connor Hughes eager to face British rival in lightweight tournament finalDAZN
Connor Hughes is set to fight at Thursday's PFL Europe event in Paris.

The upcoming PFL Europe season could be a breakout moment for Britain's Connor Hughes.

After making his PFL debut last year, Hughes has the bit between his teeth ahead of his fight with Anatolij Baal on Thursday in Paris which is also a quarterfinal in the lightweight tournament.

However, Hughes has had a mixed start to his time in the PFL. He came up short in his debut back in July where he lost to Dylan Tuke, before bouncing back with a win five months later against Sebas Santana Guedes.

Losing in a debut with one of MMA's premier organisations can immediately put some fighters on the backfoot, but Hughes' confidence has not been shaken and is now ready to make easy work of anyone who stands in his way in his pursuit of a PFL title.

"Honestly, I don’t care about any of them," Hughes told DAZN when assessing the seven other fighters taking part in the lightweight tournament.

"This is another thing from the Tuke loss, I’m not competing with these people, they are competing with me.

"Whoever is in front of me, I’m going to take them out."

While Hughes seems dismissive of his competitors, there is one name who he would like to face if he were to reach the final in what would be a huge contest for British MMA.

"If me and Kane Mousah got the final, I think that’s a massive fight for British MMA, and I like Kane," Hughes continued.

"I’ve seen him backstage at fights and we’re cool, but that fight would be huge for British MMA.

"He’s a veteran of the game, he’s been around the block, Bellator veteran now in the PFL, and then you have got me, young, up and coming, Liverpool vs. Manchester.

"I think that would be a great final fight, but at the same time I don’t care."

Kane Mousah is also set to feature on Thursday's card in a lightweight quarterfinal when he faces defending champion Jakub Kaszuba in what will be Mousah's PFL debut, and this fight along with the main event between Cedric Doumbe and Baissangour Chamsoudinov can be seen live in a number of regions on DAZN
