What 'broke' Kamaru Usman following knockout defeat to Leon Edwards at UFC 278?DAZN

This upcoming Saturday is a shot at redemption for former UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

The Nigerian star is looking to reclaim the title from Leon Edwards at London's O2 Arena at UFC 286 after the British fighter knocked out the 35-year-old in Salt Lake City last August.

But while Usman could have taken some time out to reflect and regain confidence, he is hoping to write the wrongs at the earliest opportunity with this trilogy fight against Edwards.

Now with the contest just a few days away, Usman spoke to The Pivot Podcast and revealed the one thing that affected him emotionally as he lay in a hospital bed following the brutal loss to Edwards and how he is using it to fuel his motivation inside the Octagon on Saturday night.

“The only thing that broke my heart was that my daughter was there,” Usman said.

“I’m this invincible guy and she’s watched me win countless times, and in a child’s head, that’s just normal.

"I was watching the replay at the hospital and the kick lands and then the camera pans out and I can see my daughter crying. That broke my heart big time, but then I had to flip it mentally, because this was my moment to show her.”
