Maximilian Guenther took full advantage of a tight and competitive finale on the streets of Brooklyn on Saturday to win the first of two New York Formula E races this season.
The BMW Motorsport started the race in fourth and found himself held off for much of the event by longtime race leader Nick Cassidy.
However contact between Cassidy and Jean-Eric Vergne, who along with Guenther was pressing the polesitter for the lead throughout much of the race, gave the German his chance to assume control.
Guenther held on from there to claim his first win of the season, and his third overall in the race category. Vergne finished second while Lucas di Grassi ended up beating out Cassidy to third when all was said and done.
The action continues with race two on Sunday.
