Edgar Berlanga's disappointed face said it all. He was proclaimed the winner Saturday night in New York by unanimous decision over Jayson Quigley, but it didn't go the way he imagined.
Still in the ring, Berlanga said his performance deserved nothing more than a C and promised to get back as soon as possible to keep working.
Berlanga sent Quigley to the canvas four times (in rounds 3, 5 and twice in the 12th), but the knockout simply refused to appear on a night when he wanted to show off.
Edgar pressured the Irishman looking to end the fight early, but Quigley's good preparation and cunning bailed him out each time he visited the canvas.
Both threw their best punches and although Quigley caught Berlanga on several occasions, he was unable to do the damage.
At the end of the fight, after the judges' scorecards of 116-108, 116-108, and 118-106, The Chosen One said his goal is to land a fight against one of the big names at 168 pounds.
“I want Munguias, I want GGG. I want to get to the level where my opponents want to knock me out as much as I want to knock them out, not opponents who are just looking to survive", said the fighter who improved his record to 21-0 with 16 KO's.
