'Weird!' - Shaun Wright-Phillips questions Chelsea links for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho

Chelsea's reported interest in a move for Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho is a "weird link", with Shaun Wright-Phillips suggesting it makes no sense.

The Argentina international has endured a difficult tenure under Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford, and was initially frozen out of the squad alongside Marcus Rahsford.

Though he has since returned to the fold, rumours continue to link him with an exit from the Theatre of Dreams, with Premier League rivals Chelsea mooted as a suitor.

But Wright-Phillips, a title winner with the Blues, believes talk has been stirred up by third parties, asking why the latter took Jadon Sancho on loan instead last year.

"I've been there, I've been in the world," he told Genting Casino . "I don't buy into links. That can just be agents. It's a weird link, to be honest with you.

"Because why take Sancho? You might as well have just taken Garnacho at the beginning. So, it's a weird comparison.

"For me, it just feels like it's an agent trying to get a move out of somebody else to be more aggressive in their approach, which doesn't seem to be working.

"So, I'm not buying into that. I think in terms of attack, there's not much missing from Chelsea.

"I couldn’t see where he would fit in. Chelsea have got top wingers. You don't really want more than two in each position."
