There was a full set of Championship fixtures on Sunday, with some significant moments and big results.
For those who missed all the action, let's take a moment to reflect on the weekend's winners and losers from what was the last round of Championship fixtures for 2024.
Winners
Leeds United
The left it late, to the 79th minute to be precise, but Brenden Aaronson got the job done for Daniel Farke's side to secure a crucial three points.
But this wasn't just about the win, this was about winning when the other teams challenging at the top of the table dropped points. Leeds was the only side in the top eight to secure a full-house of three points - that's not just a winning weekend; it's a triumphant one.
The result sees them go two points clear of Sheffield United at the top of the table.
Hull City
The Tigers have been enduring a tough campaign, so a second win in three games was a vital boost.
On the road against high-flying Blackburn Rovers, their goal was a high-quality one as well. A lovely step-over and a slide-rule pass in the build-up saw Ryan Longman free at the back-post to score and keep the Tigers out of the drop zone.
It was a critical win, given that fellow basement dwellers Oxford and Cardiff also took all three points from their games.
Oxford United
Right now, when you play Plymouth Argyle at home, you simply must win.
They are the easiest three points on offer in the league at the moment, which is why the Pilgrims visit to the Kassam Stadium was such a big thing this weekend.
Oxford duly did the business with a 2-0 win to keep the pressure squarely on Pilgrims’ boss Wayne Rooney and to keep themselves just out of reach of the bottom-three.
With fixtures against Millwall and Preston next this is a crucial juncture of the season for Gary Rowett's side.
Stoke City
The Potters made a huge call during the week as they sacked manager Narcís Pelach after just three months in charge.
While the move came as something of a surprise given the short duration of his stay, the results the team had been achieving under his guidance had been terrible. With Ryan Shawcross placed in temporary charge for the game against Sunderland, there was an immediate upturn in form and a win.
Up against the league’s fourth placed side Shawcross admitted his game-plan was risky, but it paid off handsomely.
Speaking to BBC Radio Stoke after the game Shawcross said: "It was a really strong performance and at times I thought we looked a really good team. The game plan was a risky one as I wanted the lads to go for it and get after Sunderland. I knew at times they would cut through us if we did at times but, second half, I felt we had a right good 20 minutes where we probably didn't get enough finishes or end product."
Cardiff City
Still in the bottom three but with a crucial win on the road over seventh placed Watford, this was a massive result for the Blue Birds. A brace from Callum Robinson ensures that Omer Riza's side are not left behind as the sides around them managed key wins as well.
Losers
Borja Sainz
The league's leading scorer hasn't found the net in a several games, and critically he may need a few more before he is able to find it again.
After his Norwich side drew 1-1 with QPR, Canaries manager Johannes Hoff Thorup confirmed the Spanish winger was the subject of an FA investigation around an alleged incident of spitting during the game against Sunderland. If charges are laid, he could be out for a while.
Portsmouth
Pompey's tumble down the table continues as they lost 3-0 to Bristol City. With the teams around them in the relegation battle winning, Portsmouth is now second-to-last, with only Plymouth Argyle behind them.
Plymouth Argyle
And last - a place sadly familiar for Wayne Rooney's charges - come the Pilgrims. The pressure on Rooney is now immense. His team are desperate for a goal threat, and they have to tighten up at the back as well.
Fellow battlers Oxford United may have seemed like a good target in their quest for a reversal of form and fortune, but it wasn't to be.
The Pilgrims next league games are against Bristol City and Stoke. The big question for owner Simon Hallett is does he give Rooney more time to bring about a change in results, or does he act now, ahead of the transfer window. Something needs to change, and soon!
