Bruno Fernandes has come under fire in recent weeks after receiving red cards in back-to-back matches for Manchester United.

Fernandes was sent off in United's 3-0 Premier League loss to visiting Tottenham Hotspur on Sept. 29 and was again shown red four days later in the club's 3-3 draw at FC Porto in the UEFA Europa League.

The ejections came amid a campaign in which the midfielder is still waiting for his first goal after 11 appearances in all competitions, as Fernandes and the rest of the Red Devils have struggled to meet expectatioins of improvement over last season.

The United captain was back on the field for the club's uninspiring 0-0 draw at Aston Villa over the weekend, but a former Red Devils star believes Fernandes will get back to being an influential player in short order.

“I know a lot of people don’t like him and how he acts, but I like the guy because he never leaves a stone unturned," Andy Cole told Betfred.

"He always gives 100% and I know he moans and screams a little bit more than others, but he only does that because it’s for himself as much as his teammates.

"His form will come back and this period right now is probably the only time he’s ever been out of form throughout the entirety of his Manchester United career, so you can’t really question him because this has been the only time.

"He will get there because he plays with his heart on his sleeve and he shows that fire and determination.”
