Arsenal and Bayern Munich played to a spirited 2-2 draw on Tuesday in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal tie, but much of the post-match talk was about a penalty that was not called after Bukayo Saka appeared to be taken down inside the Bayern 18-yard box during stoppage time.
Saka went down heavily when rounding Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, but the referee didn't believe the contact was worthy of a foul.
Speaking to TNT Sports immediately after the final whistle, Saka's teammate Leandro Trossard expressed displeasure with the decision.
"It looked like a penalty to me, it looked like clear contact," Trossard said. "We're not pleased but when you are 2-1 down at halftime you will take the point at the end."
Trossard's 76th-minute goal rescued the draw for the Gunners after they allowed back-to-back goals in the first half at Emirates Stadium. The Belgian was a second-half substitute as manager Mikel Arteta looked to change Arsenal's fortunes, and he believes the North Londoners were capable of adding to Saka's 12th-minute opening goal instead of allowing the German side to equalise and take their own lead in quick succession.
"We started so well," Trossard said. "We could have scored two or three goals after taking the lead. You can see what kind of quality Bayern Munich have to hurt us.
"Luckily I helped the team with a goal so I am pleased with that. I always try to do whatever I can on the pitch.
"Hopefully I can help in the next few weeks. We have such a great team and we know it will be hard over there [in Munich for the second leg]. If we play at our best level we can beat anyone."
