Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes the club should sign West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice in order to stay competitive next season.
The Gunners currently find themselves four points clear at the top of the Premier League table ahead of second placed Manchester City who have a game in hand.
However, Mikel Arteta's team have recently stumbled with back-to-back 2-2 draws against Liverpool and West Ham which saw the Gunners surrender two goal leads in both matches.
As a result fingers are being pointed towards the squad depth at Arsenal and with Rice seemingly set to leave the London Stadium this Summer, Petit claims now is the perfect time to sign Rice if the club want to challenge for top honours next season.
"Of course {Arsenal should pull out all the stops to sign Rice}, definitely. Rice would be important to Arsenal," Petit told LegalSportsBooks.
"If he wants to play at the top level, with all due respect to West Ham, I think it's time for him to leave the club.
"He has been linked with different clubs in England but if I was Rice I would go and play for Arsenal.
"If Arsenal want to stay at the top next season, Rice would be an important signing. But they need more players as well.”
With Rice being an experienced England international, it will not be an easy task for Arsenal to bring in the 24-year-old who has also been linked with a move to Chelsea.
