Arsenal were handed a gift last week after falling to lowly Everton, as Manchester City also suffered defeat.
The Sky Blues are five points behind league-leading Arsenal, and they had a great chance to close the gap to two after the Gunners' shock loss to the Toffees. But instead City fell to Arsenal's rivals Spurs, who rode an early Harry Kane strike to a 1-0 victory.
That means the teams start this weekend with the same margin between them, and Arsenal will look to maintain or increase their cushion with a win over visiting Brentford on Saturday.
Mikel Arteta will also use the loss as a learning experience for his players, out of whom he expects a bounce-back match.
"Losing brings a lot of opportunities to look at other things and the reaction of the team," the Arsenal manager said.
"The reaction of the team has been superb this week and [Saturday] we’re going to put in a great performance in front of our crowd to try to win the game."
